Schedule La Guarimba International Film Festival Summer 2023

A HOMEMADE FESTIVAL

The second decade of La Guarimba Film Festival begins with a courageous and groundbreaking programme. It will be a special, in-house edition at the Terrenito, a piece of land that we have transformed into the Cultural Center that Amantea did not have.

Despite the recurrent promises of local politicians, La Grotta Park is yet again unusable, abandoned to itself and full of rubbish that was left from events carried out by the local council administration more than eight months ago. The legendary Arena Sicoli is still closed, as are the other two halls in the town, and there is no trace of a library that was promised by several mayors, including the current one.

Our distrust of the local political class has never served as an excuse for immobility, but quite the opposite: where there is abandonment and darkness, La Guarimba brings light and desire to take action and create new things. On the occasion of the eleventh edition it will be no different.

As always, we offer the public free entry, thanks to our private and institutional sponsors: Fondazione Calabria Film Commission, Italian Ministery of Culture, UNHCR, GIPHY Artists, Canada Embassy, Flanders Representation in Italy, Hungary Academy in Rome, Israel Embassy, Germany Embassy, Forum Austriaco di Cultura, and Polish Institute in Rome.

The 11th edition of La Guarimba will be held under the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the Patronage of Senato della Repubblica, Consiglio dei Ministri, Province of Cosenza, and Touring Club Italiano.

We will provide chairs, lights, the organizing team, and a six-day program of outdoor cinema under the stars, complemented by concerts, children’s workshops, meetings, and the vibrant presence of a community of international artists who gather in our village for this remarkable festival.

Governments come and go, but La Guarimba remains!

LA GUARIMBA ENTRY IS FREE

ALL THE FILMS WILL BE SCREENED WITH ITALIAN AND ENGLISH SUBTITLES

F.A.Q.

Which is the price of the entrance?

Since our first year, the entrance for the screening is free, because our goal is to bring the cinema back to the people and the people back to cinema!

But I want to contribuite anyway

You can make a donation or buy a t-shirt, a bag, a gadget or a poster and help us to be sustainable!

Can we bring our children?

The festival doesn’t know the censorship but, after 23:00, some projections can hurt the sensibility of some people. That’s why we created “La Grotta dei Piccoli”, a space dedicated to children that will consist of animation movies projections during all the evenings of the festival.
