Il Terrenito 2026 – Programma Estivo Luglio

From July 4 to 25, Il Terrenito, in Via Mazzini 32 in Amantea, hosted the fifth edition of the summer program: sixteen free events spanning music, cinema, theatre, dance and markets, built together with local associations, artists and communities. An independent, free and bold program, designed to be horizontal, for everyone and with everyone: a diverse cultural offer capable of leaving no age group behind.

July 4 opened the season with a double bill: in the afternoon, the Estemporanea di Pittura, a live-painting event named in memory of Aldo Bruno, a moment of collective creation that brought together 22 artists, from professionals to amateurs from the local area; in the evening, the concert of the Orchestra di Fiati Mediterranea, which also brought to the stage the young musicians of the Starter Band and the youngest members of MusiCanto, both part of a music education program run out of the Guarimba Library.

The concert also marked the start of a fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Venezuela, which ran throughout the entire Terrenito 2026 season.

Curated by the CinemAmbulante Cultural Association with the support of the Calabria Film Commission, Cinema al Terrenito 2026 was organized into three thematic strands, each with its own perspective. The tribute to Alfred Hitchcock celebrated one of cinema’s great masters through three landmark works from his filmography. The Triglia Musicale strand, meanwhile, was created to celebrate the musical and cinematic ventures of Calabrian director Giacomo Triglia, dedicating a live program to him that weaves together film and music: Sahara Jam follows Lorenzo Jovanotti’s journey into the Ténéré desert in Niger for the Festival de l’Aïr, from an oasis concert to a discovery of Sahara Blues, the music of Tuareg artists; Il Tempo delle Noci follows Dario Brunori through the making of his album, through doubt, artistic crisis, and the search for a new personal and creative balance; and Che Verso Fa il Pesce Spada? follows Peppe Voltarelli to Scilla, where a documentary about traditional swordfish fishing turns into an inward journey of memory and self-discovery. For Cinema for Kids, finally, the choice was to go back to the 1980s: classics able to bring back memories for parents and introduce them to children for the first time. A very well attended and loved series, for which colored pencils and paper were set out for the children each evening before the films began, along with big cushions so everyone could lie together on the grass.

On July 7, Il Terrenito hosted the opening date of the 25th edition of the Peperoncino Jazz Festival, with a concert by Calabrian singer-songwriter and actor Peppe Voltarelli, accompanied by Giuseppe Oliveto on the near-bandoneón. Introducing him on stage was the festival’s director, Sergio Gimigliano, who noted that it was Voltarelli’s first-ever date in Amantea.

Fridays in July were reserved for the expressions of body and word. On July 10, the Amantea-based company La Buffa – Agitatori Culturali staged the play 4, 5, 6. On July 17 came Open Mic!, the evening curated by Francesca Mazzagatti dedicated to free performances of poetry, music and storytelling. On July 24, contemporary dance took the stage with Al Mantiah Ballet‘s Luci ed Ombre, and the calendar closed on July 25 with the Vintage Fair, curated by Maria Caruso.

Il Terrenito is part of Territorio Guarimba, a permanent cultural hub active all year round with an open-air arena, a community library and creative production spaces. In 2026 the project was named among the three national winners of the grant awarded by the Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza.
