La Guarimba is a cultural organisation situated in the southern Italian region of Calabria with the aim of bringing the cinema back to the people and the people back to the cinema.
We work with cinema and illustration using culture as a vehicle to promote our values of participatory democracy, integration, human rights, and accessibility.
Our main projects are La Guarimba International Film Festival, an event dedicated to short films from all over the world, Kino Guarimba, a film residency for international artists, La Grotta dei Piccoli, an animation film festival for children and kids that includes creativity workshops in schools; La Piccola Biblioteca di Amantea, our Library for the public with a music studio and a conference room; and Il Terrenito, an open cultural space in Amantea.
We are proudly part of the Creativity Pioneers by Moleskine Foundation and the Short Film Conference Community.
Our events have been awarded the Representative Medal of the President of the Italian Republic, the Representative Award of the Chamber of Deputies, and the High Patronage of the European Parliament.
Guarimba, in Venezuelan indigenous language, means “safe place”.
