The Feminist Book Club

The Feminist Book Club is a year-round literary project of La Guarimba Cultural Association in Amantea.

The idea of the Club is to read, each month, a book by a female author, and then gather in a town café and discuss it with the participants.

We conceived this project to include in the personal experience of reading also a moment of confrontation and sharing, to discover new underrepresented female authors, and to create cultural events at times of the year that do not offer meeting alternatives.

The Club was born in December 2022 with the first meeting at Bar Sicoli, where we discussed Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar. Since then, the group of readers has expanded and had the opportunity to read and talk about books of different genres, by authors from different parts of the world.

To organize ourselves and announce upcoming events, we use a WhatsApp group. Participation is free, and meetings are held exclusively in person and in Italian. You can find extra information on this Facebook group.
